Stopping sends SIGINT and waits for Valheim to write the world — it can take up to a minute on a large map. Don't kill it manually.

Live server log
Global keys
—Progression flags stored in the world save — boss defeats, raid triggers and the modifier settings above. Editing rewrites the world metadata file, so the server must be stopped; a backup is taken automatically first and the new file is verified before it replaces the old one.
Valheim appends a new modifier key on every start rather than replacing the old one, so that list grows over time. Tidying keeps only the most recent of each and leaves progression keys alone.
Mods
——
ValheimPlus reads its configuration at startup, so changes take
effect on the next restart. With serverSyncsConfig enabled the server
pushes these settings to every client on connect. The previous file is kept
alongside as .bak.
Access lists
One Platform User ID per line, in the form
Steam_76561198000000000 — this is what the server matches on, and a
bare number will not work. A plain number typed here is converted to the
Steam_ form on save. Admins get in-game console commands; a non-empty
permitted list turns the server into a whitelist.
No restart needed. The server re-reads these files every 10 seconds. But a player is told their admin status only during the connection handshake, so anyone whose entry you change must disconnect and rejoin before it takes effect for them.
Players the server has seen
Taken from the server's own player history, so the IDs are already in the exact form the access lists need. Adding from here still requires pressing Save lists; that player then has to rejoin.

World backups
Archives of the whole world folder, stored in backups/. Restoring requires the server to be stopped and snapshots the current world first.
